Gates belt

Ok boys, I just measured the two gates belts that I have at my shop.one is 45 and one is44-7/8 by seamstress method. marked both belts and did a pitch length test and guess what... the shorter belt has a shorter pitch length. Its all realative if your dealing with the same companys belt specifically the 46C4387 if the out side is to short the pitch length will be as well..

You can use a cloth tape like doc says.
But I'd only use that method comparing Polaris to Polaris or gates to gates, etc

Pitch length measuring is best when comparing different brands with each other for accuracy
So should I take off my oem and measure the pitch? 0 miles on sled, and then measure pitch on gates to compare. So another words the pitch on my oem is what I need to run nothing more, nothing less, or is there a bare minimum tolerance?

So if I heard him correctly the Gates number is the pitch length? So Heath it should be 43.87? How did you come up with the 45 and 44 7/8? Outside or pitch?
I have a new one that I got in last week. Will have to compare.

As I said.
You can do the cloth tape method measuring the same manufacturers belts just to compare all to see if any differences .
I do the cloth tape measuring like doc all the time, but just the same manufacturers belts.
But when you wanna compare a gates to a poo belt it's gotta be done with pitch measuring which is more accurate

OK HAVE MEASURING BELTS THE PAST HR AND TAKING NOTES:
TAPE LINE:44-7/8 PITCH LINE 43-7/8(0 MILES NEW BELT 43.87=43-7/8 )
TAPE LINE:45 PITCH LINE 43AND BETWEEN7/8AND15/16(O MILES A TOUCH LONGER THEN FIRST BELT)
TAPE LINE45-1/8 PITCH LINE 43-15/16(USED BELT MILAGE UNKNOWN )
TAPE LINE45-1/4 PITCH LINE 44-1/16( USED BELT MILAGE UNKNOWN AT LEAST 700, CANADA BELT)

My results with used gates (1150 miles), a used Polaris 1177 with 1850 and a new Gates I received last week.

Used Gates 45 1/16, 43 13/16 pitch.
New Gates 44 7/8, 43 13/16 pitch.
Used 1177 45 1/4, 43 3/4.

The Polaris was the stock factory belt which was only a 16th less than the used and new Gates when pitch was compared. I have a new 1177 in my trailer I may measure tomorrow.

Surprised by the tape length on the Polaris belt but really the pitch is very close. Seems your results are similar Dr.

So when changing these belts did you have to shim, or did you just put them on and ride?
