Try disconneting the battery both positive and negative for a few days.

Pretty simple really, basically just like you said pull the air box and pull carbs and change the boots.

There should be code sheet for those flashes in the service manual.

First and foremost, what caused the failure. Until you open it up you will not really know what you will need.

Sure but you will still need snow or ice chips to allow the slide to cool and not stick.

Could be thermostat or blown head gasket.
