I'm not against" the shim " ,and I'm not against different pin heights.. what needs to be considered here is proper piston support in the cylinder,there are pistons out there that will do that. Also you can have the "proper pin height"as quoted by Brock and use a shim..hint ,hint..

The thrust side is the intake side on any 2 stroke, the lip or edge you describe is a result of the piston trying to throw itself out the exhaust port, that's pretty common for that edge to form there.

17s and any 16 that had the reflash done are all way to lean at cold start up, start sled at 30 degrees, shortly after it will stall from being to lean, restart and will be fine threw warm up.
