Sounds like there is also metal part in the fuel level sending unit. Check out this Youtube video that demonstrates the fix. Should put all questions to rest.
Yep, sounds like your fuse. I believe it is a 2 amp mini fuse. It is located in that velcro "pouch" at the bottom left of the oil tank reservoir on top of the clutch shield.
I have a 2020 Indy 800 XC 137. I let it warm-up to 33 degrees C / 90 degrees F). You're correct, there is nothing in the manuals. My normal operating temp runs at 41 degrees C / 105 degrees F
