1993 500 classic l/c

Hi, I recently purchased a '93 500 classic liquid cooled for my son, it is in great condition and runs nice.
All it needed when I purchased it was a starter motor and the previous owner told me to get a '96 starter. The one I purchased looks like the old one and fits but the gear does not throw out far enough to reach the flywheel.
Is there a difference between the 93 and 96 starter?

Whats the part number show? does it have the same number when you cross ref the 2 sleds.

I’m not familiar with those but if it’s different can you machine down the face to bring that starter in farther or shim it and longer bold ya not sure what style they are.
