How easy is it to install a 12v connection in the dash?

Is there a connector ready to receive the 12v in the wiring harness somewhere?

What machine are you trying to put it on?

Newer stuff, yes.

Older stuff, no.
 

Polaris 12 Volt RCA Plug Outlet 2878475​

If you are looking for a standard cigarette lighter style do a google search for that part number, plenty of options to choose from. Check application guides to be sure it fits or go to the Polaris website and enter year and model.

Polaris also offers RCA style.
 
I am interested to know where the hook up is: in the wiring harness, what it looks like and if there is even one?

Yes, its in a wiring bundle where the steering post meets the top of the frame.
Look at the instructions in the link below for the RCA power jack, they have some pictures in there indicating where it is.

You can also look above the primary clutch (in the engine bay) there should be a empty plug with a 12 Volt DC tag on it.
