- 2012 Switchback 800
Hi.
I've done a lot of reading etc but I have a 2012 switchback 800 with 4500 miles I'm thinking i might rebuild. So far no real issues. Last i checked no scoring on piston skirts. Compression is 115 to 120 (checked last year mid year) I've looked at all the "fix kits" and came to either rk tek or oem axys pistons. I want to make sure it's still realiable. I seen Brock install the rk tek but haven't seen his results?
So far my pro and cons are:
Rk tek
- Forged pistons not sure about as stock is cast... i always make sure warm before riding and dont let sled get hot
- I like the extra oil holes at the corners
- claim to have stronger skirt and fix for piston rocking
- price is cheaper than oem polaris
OEM Polaris Axys Pistons
- cast like current pistons
- Polaris different design to help piston rock and stronger skirts
- Expensive
I'm torn on which option. I like saving money but if it means a better product I dont have an issue spending the money.
Thanks for the read!
