Rmk 700 and rmk 800
Hey guys new to owning sleds, but mechanically inclined. We just picked up a 02 rmk 700 and an rmk800 both seems in good overall shape besides both reedvalves having external weepage, so the 800 i told overheated on final ride ride of last season enough for the light to turn on. The only visible issue ive found is plastic coolant bottle cap is stripped so ive ordered a new one, water pump seems to be working have warm coolant at rear heat exchanger, starts first pull and seems to run good with no light but no snow to go ride til winter. Any recommendations i figure i need to do a compression test? Considering buying top end rebuilt kits for both and do em this summer? Only have 1400$ between the 2

I would do a compression test on it make sure you dont have a blown head gasket.

Update! Hope i did compression test right. Started them let them run 1 minute. Pulled a plug put compression tester in and started engine for 5 seconds

RMK800 the one with the overheat had 100psi on both cylinders. The coolant bottle was about 3 inches lower on coolant when i check this morning with none on the ground?

The rmk700 had 90psi on both cylinders

You dont start them.. leave kill switch on and remove both plugs, put compression tester in one cylinder and pull it over about 5 to 10 times with the throttle wide open. I repeat do not start it, and keep it killed!! Post the reading. They should be 110 psi or more..100psi or less seems low.

Crap guess i shoulda asked first! Is this engine cold or warm test? If compression is st 90psi or below reccomend top end rebuild?

Warm will give you a little higher reading but not much. It would need rings and new head and base gasket.

New head or head gasket? I was lookin on ebay they have kits for 200ish looks like they come with pistons and gaskets? You guys have a specific place to buy them you like?
