Is it elec start, sound like something rubbing on the gear

The stock spring has a high engagement number (140/330 ) try one with a 120/320 number

is the gas fresh non-ethnanol

filter in tank might be plugged..... Do you have fresh gas in it???

The studs will help, but you need a gear reduction also. Thats asking alot from only a 440.

You can buy the starter ring that fits your clutch, but you will need to rebalance. Not much of a savings over buying complete clutch with the starter ring installed.

The secondary should float OUTWARD When the primary grabs the belt it pulls the secondary outward because the motor twists outward. The float saves the bearing on the jackstaft as much as anything.
