Any ideas on how to remove stick-on numbers from the hood without damage would be appreciated.

Heat gun or hairdryer to get them warm and the glue tacky, then they should peel right off. Just don't leave the heat pointed in one place too long.
You could buy a plastic scraper or use a credit card to help get a corner started.

You can also use Goo-Gone to clean up the glue.
