fan cooled? It’s been a while since I have pull heads but might have guide pins so it won’t just fall off. You may have to tap it with a rubber mallet.

Try compression check first and then for sure clean those carbs. Then report back.

Compression check it, sounds like you have her burned up. Rings are getting tight. When is the last time you cleaned the carbs?

Up and down? Do you mean in and out? If it moves up and down that jack shaft bearing is most likely shot.

How much of the 440 do you have? Just the motor? Carbs? CDI ? If it just motor to motor then I would say no.
