Anyone figured out what tunnel protectors or options we have. Looks like the channel in the tunnel will take regular sliders. The dealership showed me some aluminium ones that were listed as the right part number ( same as what the older assault took) and it didn't look right to me. They were around $200 and would a pain to install.

Do we even need to add anything in addition to the short plastic strips at thr rear of the tunnel? It appears to me that the aluminium channels on each side of the tunnel act as tunnel protectors. Anyone?
 
The short plastic is there so your track doesn't catch the end of that rail. The aluminium channel isn't nearly enough to act as a protector if studded.

Looks like regular sliders will fit. Just need to figure out which ones to get and the thickest ones possible.
 
I'm not adding any extra. Have the Cobra track and using Woody's 1.450" in the center only. Looks like plenty of clearance. The track lugs will hit the protectors that are on the coolers before the studs hit the tunnel.

Remember the track can tend to balloon out a little more in the center.
 
I added a set of slides to the aluminum channel. It gave me another half inch of protection. I went with 1.625 stud tho
 
i have two buddies that bought assaults and they wondering if they need tunnel protectors when running a 1.450 stud on a cobra
 
I can't see why regular slidders won't work? Same profile.

I added them cause I'm running a cobra with 1.680" triggers . The only thing I'm gonna do now is drill holes all down the middle to help cool as the tunnel protectors kinda block the heat exchanger . Drilling a 1/2" hole about 4" apart in plastic sliders will fill up with ice from track = good thing
 
My Indy600 tunnel protectors. For what it is worth. The studs do not hit the protectors. It is the angle of the picture that makes it look like they could.

Good idea. I'll have to pull mine back out and do that!!
 
Isn't the whole idea of the expensive Aluminum ones for cooling purposes. VS the Hyfax that doesn't transfer the heat as well? I know the Aluminum ones were $200 and I told my dealer to put them on. After getting my sled home I see the dealer used the Hyfax??
 
Yes on the aluminum would cool a little better. Are there actually aluminum one's available?
 
I pulled my sliders/tunnel protectors back out and drilled 3/4" holes two inches apart with a spade bit and put back in . Looks good and will fill with ice.
 
Haven't had enough time to verify. But I'm guessing it will help and can't hurt .
 
Stupid question but every year I stud my sleds after I do it I feel I should have went just one size bigger I know that the recommended stud is 1-375 but I want to go with 144. Woodys 1.450 is this ok ??? Should I bother with tunnel protection?

I'VE RUN BOTH ON MANY DIFFERENT SLEDS. THE 375 OF COURSE WILL HAVE LESS CHANCE OF BENDING AND THEY WILL GET DECENT TRACTION. THE 450 WILL BE PRONE TO BENDING A LITTLE EASIER BUT I WOULDN'T LET THAT SWAY YOU. IF YOU WANT BETTER TRACTION DO IT. YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED. SOME PEOPLE STILL USE TALLER STUDS THAN THAT. TUNNEL PROTECTION? I WOULDN'T TRY TO RUN WITHOUT. GUESSING SOME HAVE? YOUR CALL ON THAT ONE.
