98 Xc 700 500ft grass setup

looking to see if anyone has a clutch and gear setup for a 98 Xc 700 with 220 jugs and slp single piple for 500ft grass drags. Also some tips for suspension setup.
 
Take sliders out. Add extra wheel kits. Use a .5" lug track with studs a half inch longer then lug.Lower it with straps or revalve shocks so it has approximately 3+ inches of travel . You want it so when you're positioned at back the the skis flutter and don't bite. Use one worn skag just to help you turn at end of track . Start with a 2.10 gear ratio. You wanna engage around 4400-4800 rpm on clay start. Heavy hitter weights have a aggressive profile and work good for that sled.
 
Ok have the sled as low as we can get it. We put stock pipe back on, so we now are back in stock class. Can't tie it down. Right now gearing is 20/41 clutching is Polaris blue with 10-62s, sliver blue 52/34 helix running 6.59 in 500'. Timer that we are using doesn't give 60ft. We will be testing again next weekend with a porta tree. What would you recommend as far as clutching improvements?
 
With stock u should be 7900 rpm.

Ski lift off line??? Transfer??

Main jets????

Primary belt to sheave 0.015"?
Try a 120/310 with 10 series profile weights (62 grams)
A 50/36 full progressive with a silver blue 2nd hole

Should be able to get down near 6.2 seconds with trail studs
 
Ok. It's my buddy's sled. Rpms are bit low then 76-7700 rpm now. Main jets are 182s. I'll have to get him to check belt to sheave clearance. Will try that setup. He has a 52/36 slp helix that's the closest he has to the 50/36. He also informed me he had an exhaust leak, so losing power there. What is a good time to be running for a stock 700?

Rpm's when grass dragging are better lower then high

Try n get it up to 7900 though (stock)

6.2 seconds on grass in 500' would be a good time with trail studs
 
Ok we will be testing again next Sunday with a porta tree timing system. Hopefully get that number close to a 6.2. Right now the skis are coming up just enough to take the pressure off the the whole way.
 
Unless rules are different where you are, running even a single aftermarket pipe should put the sled in a mod class. If so I would put V Force reeds in, as they helped the 700 220's a lot. I ran a 51/44-36 custom cut helix. That was fantastic in that sled,I still have that helix. I also still have a lot of Keihin jets and pilots. The 98 XC700 220 is still my favorite Polaris I have ever owned.

We got rid of the slp single and went back to stock single. Can't compete in trail improved with just single pipe. So we can now run stock class.
 
Now you could still try the v Force reeds. turn them upside down, so the little V Force molded emblem area is at the bottom. No difference in how they work. A unknowing or overworked or less than thorough tech crew might not notice.:Confused
 
That's for sure Dave. From your experience with your 700, what gearing did you use for 500'? I have heard anything more than 22/40 it will fall on its face?
 
I would agree with that. The 700 was a torgue motor, which is good for short run racing. BUT, I never went lower than 23-40 as I always , to this day, like topend also. For 500 ft at least in testing, if the temps are low, give some 66gram weights a try. The 220 stock pipe motors ran best around 77-78 rpms vs the 824's at around 8g's. Thats why I would try some 66's or 65 grams.

I have a buddy that we have know each other since i was in 1st grade and he was in kindergarden. To this day the best compliment he ever gave me was in the winter of 99 in reference to my 98 XC7. He said, "I ain't riding that thing again, it scares me!!" I took that as high praise.

Yes pretty much stuck with 23-40, but when we were doing actual testing it was for mph on the gun, not et's on timers. But if I still had the sled I would try the 22-40 for 500 on grass/dirt/clay?

600 xc ignition box has a better ignition curve and less on top. as mentioned that motor will perform better running down the track on torque rater then rpm.. so 7700-7900..

Ride the torque as mentioned . I had one of these back then. Clutching from 76-7900 rpm will be fast

I jetted down a few too
 
I was under the impression that the Xc 700 only had 118 hp? Is it true like Dave said the vforce make a huge difference. I heard 5 hp on the dyno?

they do but not legal in stock class
