Indy 600 clutching

Changing from the 11-64 to 10-64's did not change topend rpm. Still dead nuts on 7950. Last time I did not check mph. This time I watched speedo right at 100mph and gps said max speed of 98. So I have a baseline there. I just changed the secondary spring to a 140-220 blk green Same road tomorrow, pretty much same conditions and same amount of gas will be in tank. Will see if I gain some rpm and if that equal more topend mph.

Lost 2 mph on top. Down to 96 mph GPS but snappier midrange. Tradeoff??

I'll gladly shave a couple of mph to get a good trail set up. I'm currently running 140-310, 10-64, 140-240, 48-44F. This is working well so far.
 
Have you tried keeping the rpm's at 8,000? That is where the power peak is on the dyno tests I have seen.
 
8100 is about the slowest I've turned it. I think I'll dig out the radar gun and see where these things make best power.
 
changed out the 10-64 to heavy 10-66, (66.5 grams). 8050 to 8100. Pulls way harder at this RPM against my '17 600.
 
Buddy330 did you test both your sleds side by side to see the improvements?
 
Yes I did Brett. With the combo in post 103 I could roll by my '17 without much problem at 8200. This was in northern Maine at near zero temps. The rpm I gave in post 105 was in the western part of the state, 2000' ish so rpm was down, I never gave it a thought until I saw 8200 up north at close to sea level. Changing to the 10-66 weights dropped rpm and just drives by my '17, it's not even close. You and Racerdave are on to something here.

Nsp helix and my own setup springs weight and gears. Took engagement down. Geared different from first setup. Ran this setup atleast 12 times back to back. Test sled hasn't been touched throughout all the testing.


Running well over 660' here. Xc still pulling hard.

Unless he changed hoods that isn't a 98 XC7 twin. Looks like a 600 monobloc triple hood. Less than 100 hp stock.
 
Yes hood has been changed. Original was smashed. Yes it's a 98 xc 700
 
The 600 had less than 100hp stock? I have never followed the older Chassis sleds/motors.
Yes, the 94.5 and 95 XCR600 monobloc and 96-97 XC600 monobloc triples were around 95-98 hp.
 
98 xc 700 is around 125 hp with slp single pipe according to dyno charts. So very similar in hp to the Indy 600.

Where have you seen a Indy 600 stock making 125 hp?
 
Never. Just saying there close. Stock Indy 600 is 114-118 hp roughly depending on who's dyno chart ya go by.
 
Just happened to come back here. For what it's worth, the 98's Xtra 10 rear skid is better for topend running than the Indys long travel rear skid. Probably even up in a short drag
