Clutching and gearing

Heavy springs aren't the way to go, trust me. Good for back shift and heating up the whole cvt system though.
Put that sled on a timer vs one with lighter springs and heavy weights.

Professional drag racers use the lightest springs possible and throw the heaviest weights at it.

Try his set up, or race him ??

Everyone says their stuff is fast, lol
If he were to try the 120/310 with maybe a 140/220 or 155/222, would he lose rpm?

I spoke to a friend of mine who used to be the driveline engineer at Polaris in Roseau on Friday about this. He like Brock clutch the same way. This guy taught me the theory of clutching and trust me he knows his onions. We also had a laugh about those who use heavy springs and light weights don't like to ride fast. :Giggle Stiff spring and light weights are good for back shifting, not going fast. Of course you have to find that fine balance between enough backshift and speed if that's what you're looking for.

That's great advice, I think he said he's running 10-72 weights. I installed my gearing (1.74) and just have to install my 120/310, 155/222 or 140/220 haven't decided yet and 50/44F helix. I have 10-70 and 10-72 weights, ill probably try the 10-72 first. I do want to order the ssi pro mags, my problem is I don't have anybody to test against :(

Yes my friend is running 10-72, revving 8300. He still wont tell me the helix, its a compound so I guessing somewhere around 66/44.46

Have you taken it for a ride with the gearing yet? It's way more fun to ride geared at 1.74. Personally I like the 155-222 secondary spring. If you get the Pro Mags you can then use the Gates belt. Brock sent a message to me this morning and told me that with the Pro Mag weights you'll gain .020 thou more belt to sheave clearance. Since the tolerances are tightened up on the 2016 for belt to sheave the Pro Mags should fit quite well and you shouldn't have the Gates belt too tight against the primary sheaves.

My 16 clutch must be shimmed a little on the high side because the gates belt fits good, when new it had almost no side clearance but now has about 10 thou broken in. Do you think I'll use the 72's or 70's? Elevation is 0-2500ft

Only one way to find out. Try each set and see what happens.

AxysRider where do you ride ?

Hey Nick, I put the same set up in my 15 with 140-200 and used cutler tm weights at around 68g (they act 5g higher). Thing would stand up on end with clicker on 7-9, change clicker to 4 and would launch better. Spins a lot, imo. Doc recommended going 155-222 so I switched. Hoping to go this week. Also had to take weight out to get rpm up. I need to pull one out and check I believe they where 66.8 empty. Anyway if cutlers act 5g more and I'm at a little under 67 I would try the 72 first. Hope this helped. BTW have you been to Jackman lately?

Sounds awesome, I'm going to try the 10-72 first and then if that's good I'm going to mod my stock 66 weights like doc did. I haven't been to Jackman lately, Ive been going to my place in Vermont and also driving to pittsburg NH. I find the riding and grooming much better there. You should come up and check it out

10 series are good weights if they had 0.5+ gram more weight at tip to help pinch belt up top.
Lots of weights with more tip mass but most are tucked 0.020" more then 10 series ,so u have to RE index ur clutch for belt to sheave.

I would buy some adjustable weights but I don't have the tools to re index my clutch. Guess I could have a dealer do it but I'm very leery of dealers

Where about in VT are you, we should get some of us together and compare notes.I can be in southern VT in less then 1 hr, how far up are you?
I actually live in CT, but have a house in islandpond, vt. I would definitely do that, don't mind driving, wherever is good for everyone is good with me.

I have Bikeman pipe and PCV installed on sled. Just changed gearing to 1.74 and now is over revving to 8600 8700. I have Bikeman clutch kit installed also set to there specs 2-2-2-2. Drive clutch spring has finish rate of 340. Would it be better to drop finish rate or add more weight to arms.

Drop the finish rate , why do all these aftermarket companies love big Springs?

Or you could try 3 1 1 3 or 3 2 2 3
